So, a couple of weeks ago I got motivated and signed up for three 5K’s coming up from the end of April to mid-June. All three are ones I have run (or walked) before.
And now that I’ve spent my money and signed up I figured that I should get back to exercising. And did. Three days later when I took my socks off I discovered big crescent-shaped areas from side to side of each foot where the outer layer of skin had kind of slid back, exposing the next layer down. Which wasn’t ready to be exposed. And let it be known!
I did some first aid and the next day did some “second aid” with Neosporin and a giant Band-Aid. Keep off it and let it heal, right? Just one problem…it was the weekend of the younger granddaughter’s competitive cheerleading competition, and we were planning to make a weekend of it. Drive to Columbus, socialize with the other cheer families, drive to the convention center, park, walk from the parking deck to the convention center, watch the girls cheer, walk back to the car, dirve back to the hotel, and then repeat the whole process the next day! Not real easy to keep off the “owies”. My phone says I did over twice as many steps each day as I would do on a typical day at home.
Monday morning I called the podiatrist’s office and got an appointment for Tuesday morning. She looked at it, said it was healing well, no infection, blamed it on worn-out heel cushions I had in my exercise shoes and sent me on my way.
It’s better now. I really ought to hit the indoor track and get some exercise in.
